Love Letter to Hong Kong

My freshman fall in photos

To my dearest:

AUGUST

For daydreaming on the bus ride to Central. Here’s to the left-hand seat at the front of the upper deck and the dreamy view of the south sea out the window.

On this photoshoot, I remember the day’s forecasts had called for typhoons and rain—I was very close to missing this day altogether. Now, so far from that day, the mere thought of missing out on meeting these people, who’ve become such an integral part of my life in Hong Kong, is incredibly scary.

SEPTEMBER

Play any one of these songs and I’ll immediately be shot back to those special not-quite-summer nights in Graffiti, where we’d go while it was still empty, tearing up the dance floor to One Direction and Avicii all on our own.

I wish I had something more insightful to say here, but every attempt at poetry ends up with the same series of mental images: drinks upon drinks upon drinks, the moment when Roz *redacted* in the middle of Piqniq, and then finally, all of us scrambling to leave. What a night.

OCTOBER

A little more of doing what we always do.

“沒穿過高中制服翹過一次課,長大才會後悔好嗎!”

NOVEMBER

Ping Pong 129, where Josh first bought Ruby a drink in It’s Already Tomorrow in Hong Kong. Need I say more?

DECEMBER

I always see Derek listening to sad Christmas music.

轉眼間又過了幾個月…
